Sci-Fi Outpost Environment

This environment was created in Unreal Engine 4 using modular environment creation techniques and game-resolution props over the course of 9 weeks. The prompt was to created a realtime game environment of anything we wanted, and I'm a huge fan of the work that the Star Citizen team creates so I went with a concept image for the game. A huge thanks to both Josh Terry and Vince Joyal for their advice, critique, and support over the course of the project's creation!

Hologram Projection was created with mesh elements layered on top of each other with different material instances to create an aberration effect.  Some elements used a simple blueprint to rotate in place over time.

Hologram master material allowed parametric alteration of color, rotation, pulsation, opacity maps, and world position offsets.

Most assets were created by beveling edges for highlight pickup, material IDs for different derived from the master, and using a trim sheet to stamp greebles.

Most assets were created using this master material along with the trim sheet, as noted in the image before this.  If tiling was needed, a roughness overlay that tiled could be enabled.  Material was setup to take custom maps if needed.
